How To Buy Ethereum With Canadian Dollars – 4 Step Guide

Follow this simple four step guide to learn how to buy Ethereum online with Canadian Dollars from your bank account.

Step 1. Join Bitbuy.ca

Click here to visit BitBuy.ca and select the ‘Sign up to get started’ button. Complete the sign up form to open your account. You will have to verify your phone number and email address to set up the account.

You are also required to verify your identity before using Bitbuy to buy or sell cryptocurrencies. This involves providing your name, birthdate, address, and home address. The verification process is almost instant after you’ve provided the required information.

Step 2. Deposit Canadian Dollars From Bank

Next you will have to deposit the Canadian Dollars that you want to trade for Bitcoin.

On your ‘Accounts’ page click on the ‘Add Funds’ button beside ‘Your CAD Balance’.

You can deposit your Canadian Dollars via Interac e-Transfer ($50 minimum) or Wire Transfer ($20,000 minimum).

The next page will provide you information on where to send the Interac e-Transfer from your Canadian bank account. You will be provided with the recipient name, recipient email address, security question, and security answer.

Use the information provided to add a new Interac e-Transfer recipient and complete the e-Transfer to fund your Bitbuy account with Canadian Dollars.

Step 3. Buy ETH

The CAD Balance amount on your Accounts page will update with your deposit amount within minutes (if you used Interac e-Transfer). You’re now ready to buy ETH with your Canadian Dollars.

Open the ‘Ethereum’ drop down menu on your ‘Accounts’ page and select ‘Buy’. This will take you to the Express Trade section of the website.

Enter the amount of Canadian Dollars you want to trade for ETH. In the below example I’m using $753 to buy approximately 0.14 ETH.

If you’re happy with the ETH amount you will receive from your Canadian Dollar amount, click ‘Buy Ethereum’ to complete the transaction.

Here is an example Express Trade screenshot (taken in October 2021):

Step 4. Withdraw ETH To Cryptocurrency Wallet Compatible with Ethereum (Optional)

After the trade you will see the Ethereum balance on your ‘Accounts’ page.

You now have the ability to withdraw your ETH to an Ethereum compatible cryptocurrency wallet where you hold the keys.

This is an optional step because you can also leave the ETH in your Bitbuy account.

I suggest doing your own research on how best to store you ETH based on what you want to use it for. For example, if you’re planning to spend the ETH to purchase NFT’s, then transferring to a Metamask wallet may be right for you, whereas if you are holding the ETH for a longer period of time transferring to a secure hardware wallet may be the right move.

Do your own research to determine how to best store and use your ETH.
